NEW VACCINE REQUIREMENT FOR ALL INCOMING 7TH and 8TH GRADERS
the Oklahoma State Board of Health recently added a new vaccine requirement for seventh grade studetns. Beginning in the upcoming fall semester, all seventh grade students mush show proof of having received one dose of Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis) vaccine BEFORE attendance is allowed. To meet this requirement, an immunization record must be provided to the school showing the date your child received the vaccine and a signature or stamp of the doctor or clinic that porvided the vaccine. If your child has already received this dose, they will not be required to receive it again. Please bring the record with you when you pre-enroll or enroll your child for the seventh grade. Tdap vaccine is available from your doctor, clinic, or healthcare provider and is covered by most health insurance plans. All county health departments also provide Hdap vaccine to all children who do not have health insurance. (Two other vaccines are recommended, (not required) for all adolescents at 12-12 years of age: Memingococcal vaccine, MCV4 and human papillomavirus vaccine, HPV. Please ask your health care provider about these when your child received the Tdap vaccine.
In addition, according to state law, all seventh and eighth grade students must have or be in the process of receiving Hepatitis A & B immunizations in order to remain in school. If your child received shots during the summer, please be sure to bring documentation to the school office. Students who are not in compliance will have a hold placed on their report cards.
Students may obtain immunizations from their own doctor, or from the County Health Department where they are offered at no cost.
